Diocesan Schools Alliance

Diocesan Schools Alliance (DSA) and Diocesan Leaders of Education (DLEs)

The Diocesan Schools Alliance is the major mechanism across the Diocese for promoting, securing and coordinating school to school support for our family of Catholic Schools, particularly those in the most challenging circumstances.

Since its establishment, the DSA approach has successfully supported over twnety schools, in many cases helping the school to prepare for, or respond appropriately and swiftly to, Section 5 Inspections and is gaining significant credibility with the Department for Education, Local Authorities, Oftsed and HMI. The DSA committee meets regularly and is further developing its relationship with our Teaching Schools to ensure that we are able to respond to and better support our schools through an ever-changing political, educational and funding landscape.

The DSA team of Local Leaders of Education (LLEs) and National Leaders of Education (NLEs) work effectively in providing this vital support and the team has recently expanded further to make more effective use of the wealth of excellent practise and expertise which exists across the Diocese.

There is a bespoke, externally validated and very high quality training opportunity for other headteachers who wish to join the number of Diocesan Leaders of Education (DLEs). The role of these DLEs is very much focussed on school improvement and the training draws extensively on key educational and leadership theory and practise, together with the experiences gained thus far by our current DLEs in supporting schools in challenging circumstances. Headteachers are drawn from Good to Outstanding schools (in both Section 5 and 48 Inspection) who have the capacity, personally and within their schools, to support others.

The training consists of a three day intensive programme (two days of which will be residential) and application is availbale by the completion of an application form and a visit to the applicant's school. Because of the nature of the role, it is vital that any potential applicants have the support of their governing body.
